June has arrived. The Farmer’s Market is open. On Saturday. various musicians are there, entertaining everyone. On June 6 the Ellis Sextet played jazz, bossa nova and jazzy arrangements of popular songs in the area behind the street section of the market. They did a nice version of “The Girl From Ipanema.”
Amid the vendors, the talented Connor Heighton was playing some original music as the shoppers strolled along on a beautiful day.

The Vibe on Victoria music series is continuing for another year. Daily at different locations solo music acts are performing from 12:00-1:00 PM. On June 3 I heard a bit of Jamie Shinkewski’s performance. He did a wonderful version of Edith Piaf’s “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” (No, I Regret Nothing) in French and other songs in English.

I’m happy that these performances continue throughout the spring and summer. It is a pleasure to hear music in shopping locations around the downtown. Most of these performances are unpaid or they are working for a nominal fee. Throwing some money in their guitar cases can really make their day.
