Hear Nada Abdelghaffar and her show, Inspiring Imprints, on Tuesdays 2-3 PM
- Are you from Kamloops? If not, where are you from and how did you come to be in Kamloops?
Cairo, Egypt. I came to Kamloops as an international student at TRU in 2017. - Are you a student volunteer? If so, what are you studying and does volunteering at the station help with your studies?
I am studying Bachelor of Communications and Digital Journalism, majoring in Public Relations. Volunteering at the station has helped me with my interviewing skills as well as getting to know people in the community and building connections. - Are you a community volunteer? How do you think volunteering at the station supports your engagement with the Kamloops community?
It helped me build networks and get to know people and their activities in the city. I’ve learned about things I did not have prior knowledge of, like the Red Bridge. - What is it about volunteering in general that appeals to you?
Volunteering has given me valuable experience at a radio station, which is useful considering I’m majoring in journalism and public relations. It has given me the chance to give back to the community. - What other hobbies and interests do you have outside of doing campus/community radio?
Reading, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, music, swimming. - There are so many other ways to volunteer at CFBX besides hosting a show. What kinds of off-air volunteering do you do at CFBX? What is it that you enjoy about it?
I am relatively new to the station. I was here for a while a few years ago and took a hiatus. I’ve recently returned, so I haven’t explored a lot of off-air activities yet. I am interested in helping with the database and volunteer recruitment. - What would you tell a prospective volunteer who is considering joining the CFBX family?
I’d encourage them to take the chance on a new environment and get to be a part of the family. It’s an opportunity to grow in so many different ways. - What does campus/community radio mean to you?
It is something unique to what we hear on commercial radio. It gives people a different way to express themselves. It’s like tasting a new kind of food that you’ve never had and embracing it over time. - What shows at CFBX do you like and listen to regularly? Why do you enjoy them?
On the Marquee (Tuesdays 8-9 PM) Also, the Italian show (Panorama Italiano, Monday 9-10 AM), hosted by Angelo. - Name an artist you discovered through your time at CFBX that you’d like others to know about.
- Is there a local musician that you would like people to pay more attention to? Why?
Jeremy Kneeshaw. - Do you enjoy attending live concerts? Why? Can you tell us about your favorite live concert that you’ve been to?
I love live concerts. I haven’t been to one in a long time. I love being able to feel the connection to the artist and the music that you can only get though live performance. - What is your show about? What would a listener hear when they tune in?
My show is called Inspiring Imprints. I’m trying to find people from TRU and the community who have an interesting story to tell. I want to get their stories out there. - What makes your show unique?
Why do you think listeners are interested in your show? It’s a spoken word interview show, and we want to recognize people’s contributions to the community. It also helps get the word around town about CFBX and what we do as well. - What do you hope to do with your show in the future? In what direction do you see your show moving?
I’d like for the show to help me get more connected with the community and to get more involved with Kamloops and with CFBX.
