Iron Road Brewery hosted their occasional Sunday jazz show on August 17. The talented, house band consists of Aaron MacInnis on guitar, Stefan Thordarson on violin, Alex Ward on his old, beautiful upright bass and Jared Wilman on drums.
This Sunday they invited a few friends to join them in the fun. Salmon Arm area musicians included Liam on trumpet, Jordan on sax and Matt on guitar. Guitarist Kris Ruston came to town from the Sun Peaks area, too.

Their set list is more-or-less the same each time, but they play the tunes in various orders and plenty of improvisation is provided. The addition of the sax and trumpet was also a nice change. Generally you hear songs from the catalogues of Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and others.

For the jazz shows at Iron Road, there is always a full house and even a short line-up at the door. The audience was very engaged in the music. The fresh beer and unique Mexican menu is also a bonus.

After a couple of hours of live jazz, the evening ended with a wonderful, swinging version of Rodgers and Hart’s “Have You Met Miss Jones?” The audience was delighted and went home happy.
