Swing Cat Bounce and Victory Voices Gospel Choir at Music In The Park

Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce are a local swinging blues band and they have had much success over the years. In 2012, Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce won a Maple Blues Award for best New Artist/Group of the Year and their CD charted #1 on the Roots Music Report charts. Lately, Weeks has combined teaching vocals and gospel music. She has come up with the Victory Voices Gospel Choir. On July 6 at Music in the Park she combined both groups for an evening of gospel, blues, swing and rock sounds.
To start out, Sabrina and the band performed without the choir. While the theme was gospel, the band played some mighty tasty blues and rock licks, too. The team of Mike Hilliard, guitar, Jimmy Johnson, keyboard, Neil Brun, bass, Guy Ollson on drums.

Later the band was joined by the large, appropriately costumed choir. Weeks lead them and the sound was angelic. Throughout the night, before each song, either Weeks or a member of the choir would read the Bible passage that the song referred to.

Some of the songs performed were “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “O Happy Day,” “Power in the Blood,” and many others. There was plenty of clapping and singing along by the large audience. Obviously it was a wonderful performance! It is nice to see that there will be more genres and subgenres represented at Music in the Park this year.
