- Where are you from and how did you come to be in Kamloops?
I was born in Ecuador (Quito the capital city). I came here to study a Postbaccalaureate in Marketing at TRU in October 2021. I came to Kamloops because one of my friends from Ecuador referred the city as a beautiful place to live.
- What is it about volunteering at CFBX in general that appeals to you?
One of my 2024 resolutions was to create a podcast about Latin Rock music and motivational information for the community. When I found the opportunity to host a radio show, that dream came true. For this reason, being a CFBX volunteering, bring me happiness and motivation.
- What other hobbies and interests do you have outside of doing campus/community radio?
My main hobby is Mountain Biking and play acoustic guitar.
- What makes your show unique? Why do you think listeners are interested in your show?
My show is unique for many different reasons. I make my show very interactive, when some audience who has contact with me request an specific song or music, I am always trying to play the song in the next show. I am very passioned about motivational topics. The main objective of my radio show is improving the quality of life of people. The music I am playing have never being hits here in Canada, even though some artists are spectacular, there are unknown in the Canadian culture. I play a mix of tango and rock which makes my show very different. I pass my knowledge to the audience; I am very open to share my knowledge. Whatever I learn or read, I like to share to people so they can learn some from my show.
5. What shows at CFBX do you like and listen to regularly? Why do you enjoy
them?
I like the Anime in Japan (Sunday 2-4 PM) and the Vision of Eurovision (Friday 10-11 PM). I like the passion that Jeremy put on his shows and the knowledge he has about the music he is playing.
6. Name an artist you discovered through your time at CFBX that you’d like others to know about.
I really enjoyed my interview with Emily Triggs. When I spoke with her, and she explain what the origin of her lyrics is, I felt very identified about the emotions, sentimentalism, and family values behind her music. I would love to meet her in person one day and people from Kamloops hear and understand her music.
7. Is there a local musician that you would like people to pay more attention to? Why?
I discovered a great guy Jeremy Gutowski, who is a local artist. He is an amazing saxophonist, and I would like people from other places can hear his music.
8. Do you enjoy attending live concerts? Why? Can you tell us about your favourite live concert that you’ve been to?
Well, I don’t like to much to attend concerts, except for a very good band. I have not been in many concerts, but I am very happy when I can attend if it is my favourite band. I have 4 concerts in mind that I enjoyed a lot. Bon Jovi in Ecuador when I was 11 years old, it was the This Day’s tour. Charly Garcia in Quito 2004, Paul McCartney 2009 in Quito and my favorite rock band in Spanish the Ilegales from Spain.
- What do you hope to do with your show in the future? What direction do you see your show moving?
I will start to interview more common people from our community who are doing amazing things, and they can be a good example for our community. Positive influencers who can pass their positivism and experience. Real people doing amazing things.
