Kype and Friends Bring Some Rock’n’ Blues to the Blue Grotto

On Friday April 4 the Blue Grotto hosted Paul Kype and Texas Flood. They were making their annual visit to Kamloops. Originally, they were a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band. Over time they added many other rock and blues covers to their repertoire. This night was no exception. Paul Kype is the amazing lead guitarist and singer. Steve Kennan also showcased his skills as Kype’s back-up but also played plenty of lead and vocals, too.

This duo trades amazing licks and kept the dance floor full. They are backed by the talented rhythm section of Brady Valgardson on drums and Kur Ciesla on bass.

Paul Kype and Texas Flood’s set list obviously includes some SRV and they dig into the catalogues of Cream (Eric Clapton), The Beatles, the Allman Brothers, Van Morrison, B.B. King, Johnny Cash, Joe Cocker and more. There was a real party atmosphere in the Grotto on Friday night. The blues was back in the Blue Grotto!

The opening act. J Bxby, just returned from Los Angeles and showcased some of her tunes and footage was taken to be used in a video.

She showed off her great voice and threw in a few dance steps for good measure. J Bxby also received a nice reaction from the audience, including a request for an encore.

But the night was about the excellent band from Lethbridge, Paul Kype and Texas Flood and nobody was disappointed. I expect we will see them again next year.
