Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at The Central Station Pub

The Central Station Pub hosted an afternoon of music on St. Patrick’s Day. The performers, Megan Abel and Jon Treichel played all afternoon to an audience decked out primarily in green. Megan played guitar and sang. Jon played lead guitar, slide guitar and got some organ and other sounds from his pedals and also sang.

Their show included two special guests. Overall, the music consisted of rock, folk and a few Irish songs thrown in for good measure. Songs by The Cranberries (Limerick, Ireland), Van Morrison (Bloomfield, Nothern Ireland) and The Pogues (an Anglo-Irish band) provided the Irish feel. The catalogue of Fleetwood Mac and some older classics like “Summertime” and “House of the Rising Sun” were also enjoyed.

The fun was amplified by tables filled with pitchers and glasses of green beer and tankards of Guinness. This contributed to the St. Paddy’s fun.

After the second break Cliff (Elvis) Moody bedecked in a fine green jacket provided a medley of Elvis hits, with Jon Treichel on guitar and background vocals. During a later set guitarist Adam Hokenson joined the duo on guitar, for a fine version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” The audience happily sang along.

Megan and Jon included a couple of very old Irish songs in their playlist. “Matty Grooves” is around a 400 year old song and “A Man You Don’t Meet Every Day” goes back to at least the 1880s. They got excellent response from the audience. Even though St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Monday, the Central Station Pub put on a good party for their regulars and guests.
