I am an international student from Nepal. I came to Kamloops for pursuing my bachelor’s degree at TRU.
- Are you a student volunteer? If so, what are you studying and does volunteering at the station help with your studies?
Yes, I am a student volunteer. I am studying Computer Science so, volunteering at the station does not help directly with my studies but it helps me to connect with people from all fields and I love it.
- What is it about volunteering in general that appeals to you?
The opportunity for personal growth and self satisfaction appeals to me about volunteering.
- What other hobbies and interests do you have outside of doing campus/community radio?
I am very fond of watching movies and series. I like surfing the internet, I love playing chess and badminton.
- What is your show about? What would a listener hear when they tune in?
My show is mostly about Nepalese and Hindi songs, Culture, festivals, traditions, News. In addition to that on rare occasions I invite people for doing podcast on various topics such as international students difficulties in Canada, Preparation before coming to Canada, etc.
- What makes your show unique? Why do you think listeners are interested in your show?
My show is a blend of music, news, information and talks in English and Nepali language making it unique for listeners. I think listeners are interested in my show because I choose latest released popular songs for my every week live session along with I provide information on current affairs in Nepal making it a unique taste for Nepalese community and other people with no knowledge about it.
- What does campus/community radio mean to you?
To me, campus/community radio is a powerful platform for amplifying local voices and a unique space to express creativity and foster personal growth.
- What shows at CFBX do you like and listen to regularly? Why do you enjoy them?
I listen to few shows (The Sess Pool (Mondays 7-8 PM) and Jazz Notes (Wednesdays 2-4 PM)) but I mostly like to listen to Consciousness Ego and Enlightenment (Sundays 9-10 PM) which shows a new perspective to every thing discussed and questions and analyze her own answers as well.
- Name an artist you discovered through your time at CFBX that you’d like others to know about.
One artist I discovered through my time at CFBX is Shruti Ramani, the visionary behind Raagaverse, an exciting Indo-Jazz fusion project. In collaboration with award-winning bassist Jodi Proznick, talented pianist and Nord player Noah Franche-Nolan, and dynamic drummer Nicholas Bracewell, Shruti creates a soundscape that blends the depth of Hindustani melodies with the complexity of jazz harmonies. Raagaverse tells evocative stories through its music, exploring themes of love, grief, longing, and the feeling of home. Their music is a rich, cultural fusion that’s both soulful and technically brilliant—an experience I’d recommend to anyone looking for something fresh and deeply meaningful.
- Is there a local musician that you would like people to pay more attention to? Why?
While there isn’t one particular local musician I follow closely, I’ve really enjoyed the work of Risto Milner, a singer/songwriter from Kamloops. His album Listening In especially resonated with me.
- Do you enjoy attending live concerts? Why? Can you tell us about your favorite live concert that you’ve been to?
Till now I have never been to any live concerts. So, I have no idea whether I would enjoy or not.
12. What do you hope to do with your show in the future? What direction do you see your show moving?
I am hoping to make it more interactive. Specially with international students with more podcast shows in future.
