Trio of Talented Women Grace the Vibe On Victoria Series

On Friday August 9 the Vibe on Victoria series presented Julia Hedge outside on Victoria Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues. Julia, who played violin and provided lead vocals was accompanied by Tina Hebner on guitar and Bailey Finley on reeds. Busy people, enjoying a break from the recent stifling hot days stopped to listen for a bit. Occasionally some dropped money into the open guitar case and then moved on. Hedge and her equally talented friends played some songs that were popular in the swing era and a few bit more recent popular songs.

Personal favourites were Fats Waller’s “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” Duke Ellington’s “I Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” and Harold Arlen’s “It’s Only a Paper Moon.” A woman on a scooter stopped and mentioned she was happy to see three woman playing music and quite ably sang along with Hedge to the Elvis Presley hit “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.”

The talented trio seemed to enjoy themselves, as did the noon time shoppers and workers on their lunch breaks. It was a nice day to hear a fine selection of nostalgic tunes in a beautiful atmosphere.

The Vibe on Victoria Series continues through noon hour every Wednesday to Friday on Victoria Street until the end of August.
