Hear The Sess Pool every Monday 7-8 PM.
1) How long have you been doing your radio show?
I have been floating it for 2 years now. But I have wanted to do it for years, making playlists and following electronic dance music (EDM) with the idea that building a library would make interesting anthologies for the benefit and joy of anyone who cares to listen.
2) What made you want to volunteer with CFBX?
The chance to bring new sounds to new spheres and spots. Plus honestly, I couldn’t think of any better way to get into the libraries of musical knowledge here at the X. There’s really no limit to the amount of mental expansion that you can get from the station, with good attention.
3) What is your show about? What can we hear in your show?
My show is about EDM en masse. What I try to do is bring as much new sound to the airwaves. Currently, tuning in will give you a few different styles per show. But, repeated listening should bring the listener to a wide variety of styles, from near and afar.
4) What makes your show unique? Why should we tune in?
It’s the locally produced stuff, eh? That Canadiana. I try to seamlessly drop it in with
established music labels and respected artists so that it gets full marks. But tune in so that you can hear what’s getting put out there from all over the place. It’s all such a big, small world.
5) What was the best show you’ve done to date?
That one that I’m putting out there, next. It drops every next week, so best tune in.
6) Name an artist you’ve discovered in the past year you think your audience should know about?
Hayden James. Australian, but can really come with it. On the Future Classic label. No hyperbole there.
7) What was a recent live concert or show you have been to that you enjoyed and why you enjoyed it?
I saw Groove Armada somewhere over in paradise, last January. Being brought together with the few and the bold and the new and the old – I felt what’s true and can’t be bought or sold.
8) Are there any local artists, writers or musicians that you think your audience should know about?
Untrained Animals out of Calgary. Excellent music to chill out to, with a few long playing
releases under their belt so you can watch their journey from behind.
9) Name another show on CFBX you enjoy and why you enjoy it.
Alternative Radio (Saturday 8-9 AM). Because understanding the systems people are subjected to, explained by academic experts – with interests in sharing power for the people – is both eye opening and real.
10) What are your plans for your show in the next year?
I’m going for new sounds. I’m hoping that this trend of amazing new and fresh music can keep moving forward into styles unknown. This way I can try to slip more classics in and have them feel renewed.
