Downtown, the Vibe on Victoria music series continues. Generally there are solo acts or duets. On July 5 guitarist, vocalist Frank Stofanik played an eclectic set of both serious and fun, great tunes. The fun tunes included Brian Hylands summer classic “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” and Buddy Holly’s” Peggy Sue.” The more serious, although generally not viewed in that vein, was Tennessee Ernie Ford’s “16 Tons.” The song where-in a man laments that he has “sold his soul to the Company store.”

Stofanik seemed to enjoy seeing those passing by and was very gracious and polite. Other favourites were “Me and Bobby McGee” from the Janice Joplin catalogue, and “The City of New Orleans” by Arlo Guthrie. Stofanik put a nice set together that had me happily, musically reminiscing and maybe even singing along. Isn’t that what this series is all about?
