On Saturday April 18 Pizza Pi, in downtown Kamloops, hosted four musical acts. Three of the performances were solo acts whom relied heavily on electronic music and the fourth was a quartet that included heavy guitar, pop and a bit of punk music. The evening started with the debut of Lesssound.

He showcased five original electronic tracks that backed what he was playing. There certainly was a keyboard feel to some of the tracks, such as “Pass the Metaphors.” There was also a very danceable track and a track with hints of jazz. Next up was Stephan Thordarson.

Some of his tracks ran together and he provided vocals for a number of them along with other musical input. One track had a movieish/television theme feel and there was a very cool one that used more percussion in the background sounds. After a short break it was time for The Sylvia Platters from Abbotsford.

They consist of 2 guitarists, a bassist and a drummer. A guitarist and the drummer handle the vocals. They claim to play jangle pop and indie rock. and most of their show was tunes off their Vivian Elixir album.

Some of their tunes combined quieter vocals with heavy guitar, bass and drums. They changed it up and played a great punk tune, too. The audience responded well to all the acts and really enjoyed themselves … and the pizza! The final act of the evening was Phantom Orchid from Clearwater.

She has appeared in a number of BC festivals in the past. She combined her original electronic music with vocals. and also covered the T-Rex hit “Jeepster.”

Phantom Orchid obviously enjoyed herself as she danced, played and sang through her set. It was a fun night of music performed by talented musicians. This was the second concert I attended that included a fair amount of electronic music. I like that you don’t know what to expect and that the performers obviously put a lot of their talents into what they have created. Add a killer indie rock band and it was a fun night.
