Pizza Pi hosted the album release party for the Shane Rsb group from Pemberton, BC on Saturday Dec. 3. The small venue on Victoria Street in Kamloops was packed to see the three band show. Shane Rsb, celebrated his album release of Warm Colours on Divine Bovine. He is from Montreal, he now makes his home in Pemberton, BC. He spoke of coming to Kamloops and composing songs in the bathtub of his hotel room last year. Shane Rsb, on guitars and vocals, opened with a beautiful, haunting solo song. He was then joined by other talented musicians playing electric bass and guitar, along with a drummer. The indy folk-rockers set, was very enjoyable. There was a nice mix of folk and rocking tunes.

The opening act, Tommy Carson, played a solo set. He sang and played acoustic guitar. His show was mainly heart felt folk songs, outlaw country and he added a blues song that was also, very good. Carson now lives in Kamloops, grew up in Kingston, Ontario and spent a long time in Victoria before moving here. Earlier in the year a self-titled four track EP was released on cassette through Divine Bovine Records.

Next up was local favourites, Lost in the Woods. As some of their personnel has changed, I don’t have all the names. The two Matts, Cardinal on violin and relatively new to the band, Matt Stanley, on stand-up bass bookended the stage. They mainly played bluegrass, “old time” and similar roots music. Other instruments included banjo, guitars and mandolin. This talented group had the audience stamping their feet and clapping along at times. It was nice to hear a variety of instruments.

Another night on the Kamloops music scene with lots of original music, a variety of genres and talented musicians. Pizza Pi is also a warm and inviting, little venue. The audience was friendly and obviously enjoyed the bands … and the pizza!
