The Rawn Side of Town Gets It Right at Music in the Park

On the Tuesday August 16th edition of Music in the Park two bands combined for an awe inspiring show. It was locally billed as Suz n’ Jonny’s Blues Band Featuring Jbxby : The Rawn Side of Town.

Essentially there were members of Suzi Rawn and Jon Treichel’s band and Suzi’s other band, The Rawn Side of Town featuring her daughter who is billed as JBxby (pronouced Jay Baby). Added to this was the stellar rhythm section of Neil Brun, bass and Richard Graham on drums.

The band played many bluesy rock tunes from the songbooks of Amy Winehouse, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. Vocalist JBxby provided more updated material of her own, such as “Cold” and “Mistake” and teamed with her mother Suzi on others including Billy Eilish’s “Where’s My Mind.”

She showed that she certainly is an emerging talent and somebody to watch out for in the future. The gifted Jon Treichel and mates got to rock out on the Zeppelin and Aerosmith covers, but, also showed they could handle the quieter songs like Tennessee Whiskey and What’s Up, a big hit for 4 Non Blondes. Suzi Rawn got to show the talent that gained her fourth place in the original Canadian Idol competition with her vocal renditions of the two Janis Joplin covers “Piece of My Heart” and “Me and Bobby McGee.”

The two women displayed incredible energy dancing and rocking, often in unison, to the sounds of their skilled band-mates. It was a comfortable evening weather-wise at Riverside Park and a large audience enjoyed themselves, thoroughly.
