On August 10 Jenie Thai and her band performed in the Rotary Bandshell at Riverside Park. Born in Thailand, Thai grew up in Alberta and has since moved to Toronto. During the pandemic she composed many songs, got married and had a child. Now she is back on the road. Thai played selections from her albums Night on Fire, Dreamers & Lovers, along with some new compositions. Ms. Thai, expertly and energetically played keyboards and sang. Her band-mates were given plenty of room to showcase their considerable talents, too.

There were songs about finding and losing love, Also, there were plenty of up tempo selections that had some of the audience dancing. Highlights included “Night on Fire,” “Who’s That Girl,” and “Sugar.”

Mixed in were some great versions of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley hits such as “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” and “You Can’t Judge a Book by the Cover.” Thai’s mix of pop, boogie-woogie blues and 50’s rocks made for a great evening at Music in the Park.
The Music in the Park series continues until August 31st. Check thex.ca for the complete listings.
