The Olivia Show Brings a Touch of Vegas to Kamloops

I got out of my musical comfort zone and attended The Olivia Show (as in Olivia Newton-John) at the Rex last night. The Olivia show is a Vegas style show featuring singing, dancing, and live music. It is a tribute to Australian superstar Olivia Newton John.

The star of the show, Sabrina Plaisance-Sia got into character and sang and danced her way through the hit laden career of Olivia Newton John. A bright projection screen and numerous costume changes by Ms. Plaisance-Sia provided the visuals.

She stayed in character while commenting on the history of “Olivia’s” music and otherwise showcased her amazing voice. She covered the main tracks from Grease and Xanadu and hits such as “Physical,” “You’re the One That I Want,” “Have You Ever Been Mellow,” “I Love You, I Honestly Love You” and many more. This, pleasurable, glitzy show was produced at a very high level. The audience enjoyed the performances and showed their appreciation with frequent applause. Mr. Rodriguez, a highly skilled Las Vegas performer provided additional vocals and handled the stage during “Olivia’s” costume changes. Live music was provided by local musicians Kristopher Ruston on guitar, Neil Brun, bass and Alexander Ward on keyboards. They were terrific, as was Dan Sia on drums. He is a former Kamloopsian. who just happens to be the husband of Sabrina Plaisance-Sia. The Olivia Show, at the Rex was well attended. Great sound engineering was provided by Lee’s Music. A faulty fire alarm caused a thirty minute delay, but the audience took it all in stride. Overall, it was a very entertaining evening.
