There’s Music in the Downtown Spring Air

With spring finally in the air, the Downtown Kamloops Business Improvement has brought back Springfest. It is being held on May 6, 7, & 8 in Downtown Kamloops on 4th Avenue and includes sidewalk sales, pop up games and live music. On Friday afternoon I caught parts of two musical performances. The first was from Peter Thorne. He is a talented guitarist from 100 Mile House, BC. He played a bluesy, rock set including a wonderful adaptation of the Classic IV song Spooky and a hot cover of Johnny A’s I Had To Laugh.

After Thorne’s performance in the next block of 4th Avenue, Sean Luciw and J.R. Adam put on a guitar and pedals clinic.

It combined songs from Santana, Jimi Hendrix and some fine, lighter bluesy fare. Staff from adjacent businesses were coming out to hear what they were playing throughout their show. Both Luciw and Adam are well known in the region and are part of a number of bands and solo projects. Their performance was very enjoyable. It was the perfect time to sit in a sunny patio, have a glass of wine, listen to great music and watch the shoppers go by. A passerby noted that this was wonderful and reminded her of being in a big city. Yes, it really was a “springfest” in downtown Kamloops.

Springfest continues through Sunday downtown.
