On Sunday August 22 Michelle Simpson performed at Bright Eye Brewing as part of the North Shore Business Improvement Association summer series of short concerts. For this show she had Gary Mockford on guitar with her. Her fine, soulful vocals fit the music choices very well. The duo played a selection of bluesy rock standards. Veteran guitarist Mockford provided great guitar support for the show.
While there were many highlights, her versions of Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin, On the Road Again by Canned Heat and Long As I Can See the Light by Credence Clearwater Revival were my favourites. The audeience was certainly into the music and listened attentively and applauded after each song. The attendance at the show was increased as the popular Ms. Simpson has fans that follow her from gig to gig.
Recently I passed through the Wednesday Farmer’s Market downtown and got to hear a tune from Alexander Carson, who is new to town. Although he was about to pack up, he was kind enough to play another song, so I could get some photos. Thank you Alexander and welcome to Kamloops.
