The last Midtown Jam of 2019 was held at the Central Station Pub on Boxing Day. With the holiday season upon us, some of the participants were from out of town. This jam, run by Richard Graham, started with a set by Graham and his house band. This night it consisted of Scott Skulmoski on lead guitar and vocals, Alex Ward on bass and Graham on drums and vocals. The Central was packed with musicians, their families and friends. Some, had worked overseas at some point and were in town for Christmas. Highlights of a very memorable evening were performances by Graham’s sister Maxine on vocals and her husband Carl on bass, along with vocals from his brother Russell Graham.
The talented How brothers, Graham on trumpet and Kevin on trombone, provided a wonderful horn section for any jammer that wanted it. This really added to the musical texture of the evening.
Reagan Mansfield provided a nod to Hanukkah, with an incredible version of Hava Nagila. It was a nice reminder that there was more than one celebration at this time of the year.
The men from local band Loops, Kevin Roy and Jon Fennell sang, played and looped their way through an entertaining set.
Some of the other talented musicians who participated this night, were David Watkins on drums, Ron on bass, and Kyle Cavanagh on acoustic guitar, Jared Doherty on guitar and vocals, Jared Wilman on drums and many other vocalists and guitar players. Everyone contributed greatly to the enjoyment of this evening.
This edition of the Midtown Jam jam proved to be epic, befitting the last one of the decade! Bring on the Roaring Twenties!
