On Sunday December 8th Iron Road Brewing hosted it’s monthly jazz session. This time it was billed as the Holiday Jazz Session and the first set consisted of Christmas/Holiday songs. There were, also, two guest artists who joined the hosts, the Malt Men.
The multi-talented, Monty Bjornson, who is part of the “Sound of Music” production which was recently in town, played keyboards. He, also, brought his saxophone along, which he used, later. Lucas Warner, provided wonderful vocals during this set. Christmas music included “What Child is This,” “The Christmas Song,” “Rudolph the Red Noise Reindeer” and a Vince Guaraldi tune from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
The gifted, Malt Men, consisting of Aaron MacInnis guitar, Stefan Thordarson on violin,
Alexander Ward on bass and Jared Wilman on drums, played these jazz arrangements of Christmas classics, along with their guests.
The later sets were tunes from the pens of Rodgers and Hart (Have You Met Miss Jones), John Coltrane (Impressions and Mr PC), Cole Porter (You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To), and many others. Some of the cast from the “Sound of Music” production came to support their friend, keyboard player Bjornson, and enjoy themselves. Craft beer, jazz and Christmas songs made for a pleasant combination on this cool December day.
