On November 21st, the Live at TRU! Committee, hosted Ryan McNally and the MessaRounders at the Alumni Theatre in the Clock Tower at Thompson Rivers University. Ryan McNally, from Whitehorse, has been touring relentlessly, as both a solo act and with the MessaRounders. He is a gifted, multi-instrumentalist and accomplished storyteller.
He credits his involvement in music to his grandfather’s large 78 RPM record collection. Here he found treasures from the likes of Bessie Smith and other blues, hillbilly, and Americana musicians. He showcased his skills on guitar, fiddle, harmonica, banjo and vocals. The show encompassed these genres, along with songs that had a bluegrass, country blues and folk music feel. The equally, talented, MessaArounders, provided sounds from Patrick Hamilton on banjo, kickdrum, vocals, and guitar. Cory Sweet was on baritone sax, clarinet and kickdrum. They were joined by a Marc Lindy who made wonderful sounds on his large, bassy tuba!
The enthusiastic lunch hour audience really enjoyed the show. After the performance, light refreshments and snacks were served and the audience got to mingle with the band.
The next concert in this series will be with Devon More on February 6, 2020. There is no charge for shows in this series.
