The Grand Slam Jazz Band, from Vancouver, played for a dance at the Desert Garden on Friday October 19th. The dance was put on by The Lindy in the Loops with The TRUSU Swing Dance Club. Grand Slam played a selection of Dixieland and swing favourites that kept the dance floor full all evening.
They played vintage tunes such as “Rosetta,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Take the A Train,” and many more by Glenn Miller, Sidney Bechet, and others.
Before the show the local organizers provide dance lessons and many took part. Grand Slam consists of Kayden Gorden – Trumpet & Vocals, Ben MacRae – Clarinet/Tenor & Vocals, Aaron Lee – Trombone, Alvin Agatep – Guitar, Michael Wagler – Double Bass and Tyler Murray – Drums.
There were plenty of solos by all the talented band members and drummer Tyler Murray nearly blew the roof off the Desert Gardens with one of his.
The next live music presentation of Lindy in the Loops will be the Swing Social Dance featuring world famous trombone player Brad Shigeta on Friday Nov. 22 at the Desert Garden. Check https://www.facebook.com/LindyintheLoops/ for more info.
