On October 12th Dave Coalmine took his solo act to the Barside Lounge & Grill at Chances Casino. I caught the first set and he was happily displaying his most recent addition to his guitar family. Coalmine plays an eclectic selection of rock/country songs, from both recently popular and classic artists. He also adds a few original compositions to the mix. In this one set, he covered “Old Town Road” and “Tennessee Whiskey.” This was later followed by Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine Since She’s Gone,” Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s “Blue on Black,” Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean,” Pearl Jam’s “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” and many more.
This talented artist had the usually, distracted gambling and dining crowd paying attention and applauding his performance. Coalmine can often be found entertaining at the Pogue Mahone Irish Alehouse, booking their bands, running the karaoke night and entertaining with his band or his solo act. Oh, and that guitar– I think it found a forever home.
