Factotum CO has put together a series of three rock shows in December and January, and if the first show was any indication, this is going to be an awesome series. This first show, was was held at the Blue Grotto on December 27th. The bands consisted of local, funk darlings Thunderchild and the psychedelic/surf sounds of Echo Beach, both from Kamloops. The headliners were The Dudes from Calgary. The show was a sell-out and fans came from as far as Revelstoke and Kelowna to attend the show. They were not disappointed. Thunderchild, played an up-tempo funky set that reminded us of Prince. As messengers of funk, they had a “funky revolution” going on the dance floor and received a great reaction from the audience.
Next up was Factotum’s Echo Beach, who displayed some amazing energy and pyrotechnics. Lead guitarist Emilio Pagnotta ended up thrashing it out on the dance floor to the delight of the full house. They played some heavy-duty rock and a wild version of a surf classic “Walk Don’t Run.” They were joined by keyboard player Kris Ruston for the last few songs.
Lastly, the headliners The Dudes took the stage and the dance floor filled to capacity. The Dudes played a fairly, long set, mixing in hard rock sounds and some surprisingly, touching ballads. The energetic Grotto crowd danced and provided vigorous applause after each song. One can only look forward to next show in the series on Jan. 10 which will include Small Town Artillery, Year of the Son and Mother Wolf. Series passes were on sale for $15 or $10 per show at the door. Check Factotum Co for prices on the rest of the series.
