Jared Doherty as seen through his Small Window

On Saturday November 17th Barnacle Records hosted the album release party for Jared Doherty’s album Small Window.

Jared Doherty composed all songs on Small Window

Doherty is mostly known as a guitarist/vocalist with the popular local band, At Mission Dolores. The well-attended show included three musical acts. Guitarist/vocalist Emilio Pagnotta opened the show with a few tunes from his repertoire and was joined for one song by keyboard player Kris Ruston and drummer Jared Wilman. Pagnotta showed off his guitar skills and some his vocals reminded me of Bruce Springstein. Then, Ruston and Wilman continued with an improvised musical conversation, that held the audience spellbound.

Lastly, the star of the show, Jared Doherty, played and sang selections from his new album, which he composed entirely. There is a dreamy psychedelic feel to many of the songs on the album. I believe one might consider the music of The Doors, the Beatles and the Kinks as influences, yet these compositions are certainly unique and independent. Doherty, playing solo for most of the show, did a great job of showcasing his tunes. Near the end of his set, he was, also, joined by Ruston and Wilman to fill out the sound on a few songs. The audience showed their appreciation for the new album with extended periods of applause. The Barnacle Record Store proved to be a good venue for this showcase.
