The online dictionary defines luminous as: full of, or, shedding light; bright or shining, especially in the dark. Also, in a physics context, as: relating to light as it is perceived by the eye, rather than in terms of its actual energy. So, the present, very visual, exhibition of light and musical talent taking place in Kamloops, curated by the Kamloops Art Gallery and Factotum, clearly falls under these definitions. On Saturday Oct. 13th, the first of two music components of Luminocity, took place in a disco style, nightclub that was constructed in the Bandshell at Riverside Park, complete with a black light entrance, bar and merchandise area and a stage for the bands.
While the decor was one of the stars of the evening, the three bands that performed, showed enough talent to make you realize otherwise. First up was the local band At Mission Dolores. They surprised their fans with a taste of their new album that will be released shortly and did a wonderful job on a perennial favourite Disco Dust.

Next up was Jared Jackel’s Bad Vibrations. Their costumes were somewhat engaging and they played a short set that was appreciated by the packed house. No bad vibrations, there.

The final band Douse, a band from New Westminster labeled as an art-rock band showed off plenty of talent. Like At Mission Dolores, they could rock out with ease and could also keep the audience’s interest with their slower material.
Most of the enthusiastic audience enjoyed the craft beverages and stayed until the end. With the music ended and the night still young some headed over to the Blue Grotto to catch a set from Rumble 100. They are a cover band that specializes in the music of AC/DC. The talented group played with lots of energy and had the Grotto patrons filling the dance floor and dancing to their metal favourites.

In all, it was a fun night downtown, enjoying the arts. The second, and final musical show of Luminocity, will happen Saturday October 20th inside the Riverside Park Bandshell, doors at 8:00 PM. No cover. Bands scheduled are: The Prettys (Vancouver), Did You Die (Victoria) and Groceries (Victoria).
