The Music in the Park series has a parallel performance at McDonald Park in North Kamloops each Wednesday night throughout the summer. One of their can’t miss shows was a rare appearance by songstress Dodie Godney. This time she combined with guitarist Michael Faust and vocalist Nicole Clay to bring us the songs of Joni Mitchell.
Goldney is a student of Joni Mitchell and discussed Mitchell’s music, and life and times. She explained the difficult chording that is entailed in playing Mitchell’s music correctly. Faust to his credit, performed quite admirably and got to use all of the many guitars that he had brought to the performance.
As always, Goldney provided amazing vocals and harmonized well with Clay.
Ms. Clay also got to show her prowess on lead vocals a few times. The varied Joni Mitchell songbook is not an easy task to cover and these three musicians did a wonderful job on a beautiful, sunny evening in North Kamloops.
