Sunday is becoming Funday at the Blue Grotto. On Sunday June 17th a triple bill was on tap consisting of local bands that are part of the Factotum CO group: At Mission Dolores and Abby Wale, along with Victoria’s Bridal Party. Each band played a set. Abby Wale started the evening off. She primarily plays original material. Her band consisted of two guitars, bass and drums. Her soulful lyrics resonated well with the young crowd.

Next up was Victoria’s Bridal Party. They consist of two guitars, bass, keyboards and drums. The lead singer, Suzannah Raudaschl, had a wonderful stage presence and eventually went dancing in the audience during one of their songs. The rhythm section did a great job of laying down the groove and the dance floor filled.

The last act to appear was Factotum CO’s flagship band At Mission Dolores. They will soon be going on hiatus to record a new album at a studio on Gabriola Island, so this might have been the last chance to see them for a while. They played songs from there most recent EP releases and included extended solos in most of them. At show’s end the audience chanted “One more song,” and they willingly obliged.

While primarily alt rock, the bands were varied enough to add a spark of excitement to the evening. It has been enjoyable to watch At Mission Dolores mature as a band and as performers. Hopefully, when At Mission Dolores finishes recording, we will get an album release party. Maybe on a Sunday night at the Grotto.
