Have you ever wondered how much of the talk around enlightenment is less than productive or even leading you in the wrong direction?
Enlightenment is supposedly truly hard to achieve, with the final step taken by grace, not by ourselves. There are a lot of sidetracks that divert us from the main pathway.
Dr. David R. Hawkins called these sidetracks “the astral circus”: all the things that pull us away from focusing on enlightenment. There are many fascinating things that we call spiritual that don’tlead us towards enlightenment. Two that immediately come to mind are Astral Travel – chasing after new and exciting experiences; and Channeling – where you have no way to know if the entity being channeled is spiritually advanced or just a convincing fake.
In this show we recap the book Rude Awakening, written by P.T. Mistlberger, which summarizes many different hard truths and reasons why enlightenment is hard. The subtitle is Perils, Pitfalls and Hard Truths of the Spiritual Path. It lists many of the diversions that tempt us off the pathway to enlightenment. I found it an excellent round up of many of the blocks to spiritual progress.
His website is www.ptmistlberger.com, and the book Rude Awakeningis available at the TNRD library.
