The duo of vocalist Blaine Alexandre and guitarist Erik Scholefield played a few lively sets at the Tumbleweeds Lounge of the Plaza Hotel on Friday January 19th. The Plaza Hotel occasionally plays hosts to smaller musical groups on weekends. Alexandre and Scholefield are also part of the five piece band, Forum. These two talented musicians played a wide variety of popular music. Their early sets covered popular country and rock hits such as “Dust on the Bottle,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and a couple of Tragically Hip classics. Later sets covered more rock and country classics such as “Copper Head Road,” ” Summer of 69″ and “Keep Your Hands to Yourself.”
Considering they are a duo, they managed to produce a really full sound that brought to mind a larger unit. Their performance was really appreciated by the Plaza patrons on that evening. Scholefield showed off his virtuosity on guitar and chipped in with some background vocals. Alexandre showed that he is one of the better vocalists on the local scene these days. Fun fact: Erik Scholefield played professional hockey in Europe. Stay tune for more shows at the Tumbleweeds Lounge in the Plaza Hotel and watch out for Forum in all it’s in variations.
