The Yale County Jug Band played the Rock’n Firkin on a cold pre-Christmas night. They are a local roots band with flashes of blue grass thrown into the mix. YCJB includes band leader Gerry Sherk, guitar and lead vocals, Kelly Bartsch, bass, Keith Elliot, washboard, Justin Bentley, guitar, background vocals and hijinks, and Marie Jackson, vocals.
Their show consists entirely of original music. At one point they gave cowboy/cowgirl hats to the dancers in the audience. Bentley wandered through the crowd while playing his guitar and even joined the dancers, never missing a beat. Sherk showed off his bottle slide skills in a couple of tunes.
Elliot and Bartsch provided solid rhythm backing, helping to give YCJB their unique sound. Jackson filled out the vocals and provided lead on a beautiful ballad.
The near capacity crowd was quite pleased with their performance and went home happy.
